Shoot the Streets with an Award Winning Photographer
If you are looking to develop your street and reportage photography style this one day workshop will get you on the right track. We are very pleased to have award-winning and internationally published photographer Stephen Kelly work with 36 exp to provide this Street Photography Workshop.

The day will begin with Stephen introducing his street reportage work produced throughout China and Eastern Europe. Stephen has worked on extended photo essays in such places as Macau, China’s Sin City and Albania.
Stephen will discuss his personal approach to street reportage, answering specific questions on how he made the work and provide advice and tips with reference to particular images. He will discuss the importance of composition, colour and light in street photography and the key approach to capturing the subject without intrusion.
You will then spend time shooting in the streets. Stephen will work with you individually while you photograph, giving tuition and advice.
In the afternoon, the group will reconvene for a discussion and feedback on their work so far. Stephen will view and provide feedback on your images, and answer any questions. He will also present and discuss the work of influential street photography practitioners, enhancing your knowledge of the practice and giving further inspiration.
The rest of the afternoon will be spent continuing your work on the streets under the guidance of Stephen. The group will meet for a final discussion and any last questions before the workshop comes to a close at 5pm.
Stephen’s Biography:
Born in Cumbria, Stephen spent his early childhood in West Africa and the Middle East before moving to Hong Kong where he lived for ten years. Stephen then returned to the UK to study, gaining a degree in documentary photography at the University of Wales, Newport.
Stephen works on both personal and commissioned projects and has won a number of awards for his work; the Gareth Jones Memorial Travelling Scholarship, the Observer David Hodge Photographic Award and the Made in China award at Lodz Fotofestiwal, Poland.
Stephen’s work has been exhibited in such spaces as the Palazzo Pepoli Campo Grande in Bologna, Italy and the Centro de Fotografía Isla de Tenerife in Spain. His stories are regularly featured in international publications; The Independent Magazine, The Observer Magazine, D La Repubblica Delle Donne, IL Magazine, Asia Literary Review and PRIVATE: International Review of Photographs amongst others.
Stephen recently completed an artist residency at Fabrica: Benetton’s Research and Communication Centre in Treviso, Italy.
